Travel 2004, Phuket, Thailand!...
We flew into the airport on Phuket island and were picked up by the taxi for the Le Tong Beach Hotel on Patong beach.

Le Tong was nice, clean and friendly

and the location near the notorious craziness of Patong Beach and town was great.
This is an overview shot of Patong Beach...

Now, when I say notorious, I mean NIGHTLIFE!... The bars and clubs are all kinds of crazy and the "Ladyboys" (Thai Drag Queens), are everywhere!

Now as hard as this may be to believe, the nightlife and the beaches and all that wasn't the reason we came to Phuket. Heather and I love Thai food and so it seemed the obvious thing to do was to learn to cook it! We booked a Thai cooking course at Mom Tri's Boathouse

which is just a beach or two up the coast of Phuket from Patong Beach on Kata Beach.
The Thai Cooking Course was AMAZING and Heather and I learned a lot! Our instructor, Chef Tummanoon Punchun

was incredibly informative and helpful and every day you learned, hands on, his culinary secrets!

Heather and I enjoyed this immensely and it was definitely the highlight of our time on Phuket island!

We also enjoyed the Kata Beach area even more than Patong Beach. Heather enjoyed lounging under an umbrella...

while I found the local watering hole...

We even managed to do a fun snorkeling trip one day and that took us, via speedboat, to Koh Phi Phi Lay, which is where the movie "The Beach" was filmed along with being the location of the "Viking Cave", Koh Phi Phi Don, where we had lunch and saw the "Monkey Beach", and another tiny little island that I can't remember the name of.
Altogether it made for a great time in Phuket!
After Phuket, we flew from the island back to Bangkok and then to Krabi... Now while Krabi and Phuket are close together and we could have just drove the distance or taken a taxi, our Star Alliance Round the World tickets allowed us to fly there and rack up a few extra airmiles, so no big deal... From Krabi airport we were picked up by the taxi service for the Charlie Beach Resort on Koh Mook, which was soon to become one of our favorite places!...
